A Picture Really Does Speak A Thousand Words

Leandro started coming to us about a month ago. He is deaf, blind and has no speech though he can communicate to his helper using British Sign Language. For the first three visits he came to get familiar with us and our surroundings and we began by introducing him to a horse.

One of our most trusted ponies, Candy, is led over to Leandro who gently began stroking the horse. Firstly, her nose and then Leandro lay his hands over the horses whole face, touching her nostrils, up her nostrils, then higher feeling the bump above her eyes, stroking her mane and Candy, seeming to sense his vulnerability, slowly lowered her whole head into the young man's lap and quietly starting snorting and blowing through her nose - they were communicating.
