On a blistering hot, June Saturday we held our annual summer fete. We were very fortunate to have Ernie Almond, the presenter of BLACKCAT107, as our opener and he did an excellent job.

We were given two cheques of £1,250 from two different Lions`Clubs, The Bedford Lions Club and Biggleswade Sandy Lions, both of whom have supported us in the past. This money was spent purchasing our new pony, Maisie, who is proving to be a great hit with the children. In her previous life, Maisie used to deliver milk around four different villages to it is quite appropriate that Ernie was present during the handover.

Maisie is a skewbald (black, brown and white) and is very well behaved. She loves a fuss from everyone and will stand good as gold if she is getting attention (don`t we all!) She can be a bit cheeky in the field with the other horses and she thinks she is the boss - they let her have her way though possibly because she is one of the smallest ponies we have.

The fete raised £3,476 and a big thank you goes to all our volunteers who put in such a lot of hard work to run such a successful day.

Ernie Almond interviewed both Chairmen of the Lions Clubs, Keith Lewis and Derek Beasley to listen to their interviews click here
