On a crisp and sunny day in December, we had our Christmas Party. Our guest of honour this year was Camilla King (High Sheriff of Bedfordshire) who welcomed our guests with a lively and lovely speech assisted by one of our Trustees, Nick Kier. Also present was Collen Atkins, the Speaker of Bedford Districk Council. Nick thanked our wonderful volunteers without whom we would not be able to operate.

After a nativity on horseback, the children from Ivel Valley, St Johns, Rivertree and Sheethatch Primary Schools participated in various games set to music. The High Sheriff threw herself into the proceedings and gained the admiration of many of our guests.
Father Christmas appeared on horseback and was assisted by the High Sheriff in distributing gifts to all the children. (Father Christmas learnt how to ride especially to participate in our festivities.)

After such frolics we were lucky enough to receive donations from local organisations namely Ian Billington from The Aesopians, Blanche Walker from East Beds NFU Ladies Section and Mervyn Askew and Nick Eagle from Willington Transport.

Our grateful thanks go to all three organisations for their continued fiscal support because without such donations we would not be able to continue .
At the end of these presentations, our very own Jean Bedford was presented with a portrait, painted by David Lewry, in honour of all the good work she has done for so many years as a volunteer.

A delicious lunch of canapes, sandwiches, cakes and other mouth-watering morsels ended the event.
What a wonderful way to start the Christmas Festivities!
